Line of Best Fit

Line of best fit is a line on a graph which shows the direction of a group of points. This can be used for predictions. So basically you are drawing a line through the middle of your scatter plot.

To find a line of best fit you find 2 points toward the center of your scatter plot. You will find the equation by using this formula: Y2-Y1/X2-X1 (this will be in fraction form). After you find the equation you will take a straight edge and draw a line between those 2 points. This will give an accurate representation of a line that goes perfectly through the middle.

Quiz:  1) what is the def. of a line of best fit?
                        2) what is the formula to find the equation between 2 points?
                        3) what scenarios can you use this process?

Key:  1) a line on a graph which shows the direction of a group of points...
                        2) Y2-Y1/X2-X1 (this will be in fraction form).
                        3) when dealing with scatter plots.

unit 5 day one: students will use line of best fit to find equations of lines.
